Imagine having short-sightedness when you work in roles where vision is critically important. We met Dumitru Grubii at KSA — a fraud and payments analyst whose work and daily life have always been affected by the challenges of short-sightedness. Simple moments experienced after the procedure made him realise just how limited his vision had been before.
Who is Dumitru and what does he do day to day?
My name is Dumitru Grubii and I am a fraud and payments analyst at CoolBet. Previously, I worked at Wise as a Due Diligence specialist. As you might guess, I spend a large part of my time in front of a computer screen, which is certainly not ideal for anyone with astigmatism and short-sightedness. Before joining those large companies, I also worked for several years as a photo and videographer, and that passion remains with me to this day. So for most of my life I have relied on my ability to see the world.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
When I manage to find time alongside my one-and-a-half-year-old child, I enjoy reading, cooking and photography. I have also found birthday parties, sporting events and other similar activities to be great opportunities to express my creativity.
How did short-sightedness affect daily life and work?
Short-sightedness made my work as a photo and videographer and editor considerably more difficult. Achieving precise focus and capturing fine details was a real challenge, making everything more time-consuming and disrupting my workflow. Foggy or smudged lenses distracted me at critical moments when assessing compositions. It also affected other activities such as sport and playing with my child.
It may sound strange, but something as simple as squinting could affect the impression people had of me. Wearing glasses led to a habit of involuntarily squinting when concentrating, which may have given the impression that I was angry. The laser procedure not only improved my vision but also helped me get rid of that habit. The way I present myself and interact with others changed — more naturally and with greater confidence.
Recognising friends from a distance had always been a challenge. I would often mistake strangers for people I knew, or the other way around. Embarrassing greetings directed at the wrong person were my trademark.

Why did Dumitru choose the Flow3 laser procedure?
I decided to address my short-sightedness after being encouraged by friends living in Italy who had undergone a similar procedure. Their stories motivated me to look into it further, and after reading excellent reviews about KSA Silmakeskus I felt confident making that choice. I was motivated by the desire to improve my quality of life.
How did you first hear about KSA, and was the decision easy to make?
I found KSA Silmakeskus through a Google search. The positive reviews there made a strong impression on me. I then looked further into the clinic's website, where I found additional convincing information that confirmed my decision to choose KSA.
How did the day of the procedure go? Did you have any fears or expectations, and did reality match them?
The procedure itself was extremely quick — less than 10 minutes! The doctor explained the entire process — what to expect and how recovery would proceed afterwards — and the correction was reviewed once more before the procedure began.
Given how much I depend on my vision, I had actually been afraid my whole life to do anything about it. This irrational fear is similar to being afraid of the dentist as a child. None of my family members have ever had such a procedure, and at times even considering it felt strange. Once my eyes had been examined, I changed my mindset in an instant. Optometrist Arina confirmed the safety of the procedure and the clinic's high standards to me. Everything felt logical.
How did life change after the Flow3 laser procedure?
I can say with certainty that it was a life-changing experience. Being free of glasses has had a significant impact on my daily life. Simple things like waking up, bathing my child, or reading the small print on packaging without glasses have brought a feeling of complete freedom.
Have you had a wow moment when you realised you were now seeing with your own eyes?
I am glad that I can engage with my child without worrying that they will break my glasses. Recently they started taking my glasses off and playing with them — which was not ideal, as the last pair cost around 400 €, for example. I also simply enjoy wearing any sunglasses I like without immediately becoming practically blind.
I feel much more confident and safe at night, as I no longer have refractive errors and limited vision. Driving was also strongly affected, since no pair of glasses can fully eliminate the problems caused by astigmatism.
I remember that when learning English I used to practise my spelling by looking at the letters and numbers on car licence plates. I still have that habit to this day and sometimes do it when walking the dog. I was astonished when I could see plates that were quite far away. I had not been able to see them before even with glasses. It is exactly those simple moments that make you realise how limited your vision was before.
