Researchers built digital cameras modelled on insect compound eyes, using curved arrays of tiny lenses instead of one flat sensor. This yields an ultra-wide field of view, near-infinite depth of field and sharper motion capture than current cameras.

AR Glasses for Monocular Vision: 3D Depth Perception
Losing sight in one eye removes binocular depth perception, making distances harder to judge. Researchers at Yamanashi University have adapted commercial AR glasses to project a "defocus" effect into the remaining eye, simulating 3D depth from dual camera input.
