Most people fear that getting rid of minus glasses means a doctor has to operate on their eye, cut it open, and perform other uncomfortable procedures. With some methods, that is indeed the case — but the reason patients love Flow so much is simple: no incision is made in the eye, neither with a knife nor a laser. All the correction is done with a laser from a distance!
Fear has big eyes, and the imagination is even bigger. So the widespread belief is that correcting myopia, or short-sightedness (minus vision), always requires making an incision in the eye and performing surgery.
Modern laser technology without incisions
Fortunately, today's technology has advanced to the point where the premium-class lasers from the German company Schwind Amaris allow people to free themselves from glasses and contact lenses without any incision. KSA Silmakeskus has their newest laser, completed in 2014.
"That is why we no longer call it surgery, but a laser procedure. People associate the word 'surgery' with cutting, whereas the word 'procedure' describes exactly what Flow offers — a quick and quite comfortable procedure that frees you from glasses," explains KSA Silmakeskus owner and ophthalmologist Ants Haavel.
How Flow differs from other methods
To treat myopia, the cornea (the eye's clear front layer) needs to be corrected. This can be done in several different ways. Some methods involve cutting a flap from the top layer of the eye, setting it aside, and removing the necessary epithelial layer from underneath.
With the Flow method, the corneal layer is penetrated with a laser instead of a knife, and the cornea is likewise reshaped using the laser. "Previously we also performed the Lasik method, but after introducing Flow we decided to move away from methods involving incisions. We found that it is more comfortable for the person and their eyes," says Haavel.
What are the strengths of the Flow laser procedure?
No incision is made in the eye. This makes the procedure more comfortable and less traumatic for the eye.
- Lifestyle restrictions (exercise, washing, rest) end just 7 days after the procedure. After that, you can engage in absolutely anything — no restrictions whatsoever.
- Studies and patient feedback have shown that the incision-free method provides people with excellent night vision.
- The results of the Flow laser procedure last for years. Once the procedure is done, vision should remain stable. Today you are free from glasses, and the years that follow are yours to enjoy.
Is one of your dreams to be free of glasses, so you can enjoy every day with sharp, clear vision?
