Flow3 Laser Eye Surgery: Your Questions Answered

Over the years, we've worked with thousands of patients who arrive with plenty of questions before their Flow3 procedure. That's natural. Vision correction is personal, and you deserve clear answers. Here are the questions we hear most often.
Will I really need to avoid reading and screens for a whole week?
Rest is the priority during recovery. Reading and some TV won't damage your eyes, but they might feel uncomfortable. The key is to minimise strain and keep your eyes properly hydrated. Use rewetting drops regularly, and listen to your eyes—if something feels uncomfortable, ease off. Most people find they can gradually return to normal activity as the week progresses.
Do I need to have children before having the procedure?
No. We perform Flow3 procedures on women regardless of whether they've had children. However, there's a practical consideration: the medications and eye drops we use during and after treatment may not be suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. We recommend having the procedure either before pregnancy or after breastfeeding is complete. If you want to explore this further, we have more detailed guidance available.
Will the eyelid speculum be uncomfortable?
Before the procedure, we apply anti-inflammatory and numbing drops to your eyes. The speculum—the small device that keeps your eye open—might feel slightly unusual, but most patients report it's hardly noticeable at all.
Are the protective contact lenses uncomfortable, especially overnight?
After your procedure, we place ultra-thin, oxygen-permeable protective contact lenses on your eyes while they heal. These are removed after 6–7 days. In general, patients find them comfortable. The main things: keep your eyes moist and resist the urge to rub.
Will eyelash extensions cause problems?
They won't interfere with your initial assessment or the procedure itself. However, avoid eyelash treatments during the period when you're wearing protective lenses—typically the first week. On the day of surgery, skip all eye makeup, hairspray, hair products, shaving lotion, and perfume. Remove eye makeup at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Will I be able to see well enough to get home on my own?
Right after the procedure, your vision may be relatively clear or slightly blurred. Either way, we don't recommend driving. KSA Silmakeskus offers free taxi transport within Tallinn for patients who've just had the procedure. Alternatively, arrange for a family member or friend to collect you. We want you home safely and comfortably.
