From Glasses to Contacts to Clear Vision

KSA Silmakeskus has welcomed thousands of patients over the years — Estonians living abroad, international visitors, and locals seeking better vision. One particularly interesting group: Estonians who decide to correct their eyesight just before relocating overseas.

Triin was one of them. Last spring, she moved to Texas with her 5-year-old daughter to take up a new role as warehouse coordinator for Ericsson, a global technology company. Outside of work, she's passionate about dance and yoga.

But before that fresh start in America, she wanted to start with fresh eyes.

25 Years of Glasses and Contacts

Triin got her first pair of glasses in fifth grade. For the next 25 years — 15 of those in contact lenses — she lived with the constant friction between correction methods.

"Glasses were a nightmare during exercise," she explains. "They'd slip down my nose constantly. In the sauna, they'd fog up. Driving in the sun, I couldn't wear prescription sunglasses properly."

Contacts felt like progress, until they didn't.

"If I ended up staying somewhere unexpectedly without my lens solution, it was a disaster. I'd leave them in overnight, and my eyes would be painfully dry by morning. Later I switched to lenses you could sleep in, but I never felt comfortable doing that. And how many times did a lens slip out while I was putting it in? I'd have to dig through drawers for a spare pair — or just put my glasses back on."

Over time, her prescription got stronger. Neither option felt right anymore.

A Conversation Changes Everything

Months before her move to the States, Triin mentioned laser eye surgery to a friend. That friend had a simple but powerful recommendation: "I had mine done at KSA Silmakeskus. You should call them."

What Triin remembered hearing was a 2–3 week recovery. That sounded impossible — she didn't have that much holiday left.

But when she spoke to her friend again, the story was different: "Recovery is about 5 days. Really fast."

Triin picked up the phone immediately. "I booked my eye exam and the Flow3 procedure for the same day," she says.

Later, she realized how perfectly this timing worked out. In the US, buying contact lenses requires a doctor's prescription. Each optometry visit costs $100–200, depending on insurance. Over time, that adds up. She needed clear vision in her new country without that ongoing expense.

Triin is convinced there are no coincidences. Everything aligned exactly as it should.

Faster Than Expected

The procedure itself was a shock in the best way.

"It was incredibly fast," Triin recalls. "I think it was less than 20 seconds per eye. The doctor was so kind — he kept joking and keeping the energy up the whole time."

What surprised her most wasn't the speed of the laser work. It was how quickly she could see clearly afterward. Within days, she was moving through her final weeks in Tallinn without reaching for glasses or struggling with lens cases.

By the time she boarded the plane to Texas, her vision was stable, sharp, and free.

Why It Mattered

For someone about to start a new job, settle into a new home, and navigate life in a new country, one fewer problem made all the difference. No prescription glasses to adjust to pressure changes during flights. No contact lens solution to pack. No morning routine of searching for lenses in the dark.

Just clear vision.

Triin's story is one we hear often at KSA Silmakeskus. People come to us at pivotal moments — before big moves, before important chapters, before they want to stop negotiating with their eyesight.
