"It's an investment for life"
In early March, singer and performer Gertu Pabbo underwent the Flow3 laser eye surgery procedure at KSA Silmakeskus. Many know her from the TV show "Estonia Seeks a Superstar," where she reached the final as a runner-up in 2015. Two months on, we caught up with her to discuss how the procedure has changed her life, her career, and her vision.
Your path to the Superstar final
I started singing very young—around six or seven years old. I joined a choir and began music lessons, following my older sister's example. By my early teens, I knew I wanted to perform as a solo artist, and that's when things really began.
Working with my vocal coach Novella Hanson, I competed in numerous contests and won several awards. But Superstar marked a turning point. After the final, my life shifted dramatically. I moved to Tallinn—exciting but terrifying—and suddenly found myself part of amazing projects: touring with Tanel Padar and Ott Lepland, releasing new singles, competing in Estonia's Eurovision selection, performing on winter tours. It was an incredibly fast-paced period, both thrilling and exhausting.
Your relationship with music today
My love for music hasn't changed, though I'll admit my voice and new tracks don't appear on the radio as often as I'd like. I'm working on that.
I still perform regularly with a fantastic group, mostly at private events. But I'm always open to new opportunities. Music remains central to who I am, and I genuinely hope to make it part of my life forever—whether as a career or passion project.
Your education and current work
I graduated from Tallinn University with a degree in integrated arts, music, and multimedia. The degree appealed to me because I wanted to bridge music and media, and it offered exactly that. Music will always be close to my heart, but I've always wanted to expand my skills beyond it.
These days, my main focus is marketing and social media management. It's a field I find genuinely fascinating.
What you do in your free time
I love to travel, spend time in nature, and be with family and friends. Beyond that, music is always my refuge. I listen to new artists constantly, sing whenever I can, and attend live performances—it's deeply inspiring and healing.
The Flow3 procedure: Before and after
I decided to have the Flow3 procedure because I wanted better vision without the worry of a corneal flap. As a performer, the idea of a procedure with no cut or surgical flap really appealed to me. I didn't want to be limited in any way—no contact sports restrictions, no worry about eye trauma during rehearsals or performances.
The procedure itself was straightforward and surprisingly quick. Dr. Ants Haavel and the team made me feel completely at ease. The laser work took just seconds per eye, and I left the clinic the same day.
Two months later, my vision is excellent. The recovery was smooth—a few days of mild discomfort, but nothing that stopped me from living normally. By day five or six, I could already see clearly. What surprised me most is how natural it feels now. I don't think about my eyes anymore; I just see.
For anyone considering laser eye surgery, especially performers or active people, I'd say this: it's not just about clearer vision. It's an investment in your freedom. I can rehearse without concerns, perform without limitations, travel without worrying about contacts or glasses. That peace of mind alone is worth it.
Why Flow3 stands out
What impressed me most about KSA Silmakeskus wasn't just the technology—it was the confidence of the team itself. I learned that the entire clinical staff, including Dr. Haavel, chose Flow3 for their own eyes. That tells you everything. When the people performing the procedure trust it enough to use it on themselves, you know you're in good hands.
After more than 55,000 procedures, KSA has refined this process to perfection. The flapless approach means faster healing, fewer restrictions, and genuine peace of mind—especially if you live an active life or work in demanding conditions.
If you're thinking about vision correction, whether you're an athlete, performer, or simply someone who's tired of glasses and contacts, I'd encourage you to have a consultation. One week to clear vision and a lifetime of freedom? That's a deal worth considering.
