A Life in Motion Meets Clear Vision

Maret Mikk is one of those people who makes things happen. She moves through Tallinn's cultural scene with the energy of someone who genuinely loves what she does—and it shows. She runs Jazzkaar, manages musicians, leads her own agency, and somehow still finds time to skateboard through the city and sing. Culture and movement define her world. So when she decided to correct her myopia, she chose Flow3, the flapless laser procedure that lets active people stay active.

Here's her story.

Tell Us About Yourself

I'm Maret Mikk. I usually describe myself as someone who lives and breathes culture, with a serious side obsession with extreme sports. I love theatre, I listen to everything from jazz to electronic music, and I spend winter months skiing or summer evenings longboarding around Tallinn. I sing regularly, and I'm—slightly absurdly—really into hot air balloons. As Winnie the Pooh said: "You can't be unhappy when you have a balloon."

Professionally, I work across several roles in the cultural sector. By day, I'm a project manager, producer and communications lead at Jazzkaar, one of Estonia's major cultural institutions. I also run Kultuurikõla, my own agency that handles marketing and communications for cultural events. I manage a couple of musicians—pianist Joel Remmel and his trio, plus singer Liisi Koikson. On top of that, I've worked on everything from corporate events to the Song Festival and presidential receptions with my brothers.

Honestly? There's no such thing as a typical day for me.

What Does a Day in Cultural Management Actually Look Like?

I had to laugh at that question because my days are never the same. Mornings at Jazzkaar involve coordinating almost year-round concerts and festivals—we're always planning the next event. Our team is small, so we all wear multiple hats. I handle our communications, run special projects, manage our digital channels, and jump into marketing and production whenever needed.

Then there's the artist management side: helping Joel and Liisi with concerts, managing their social media, releasing new music, handling the hundred small things a manager actually does. Sometimes I'm the lighting technician. Sometimes I'm selling tickets or moving chairs.

With Kultuurikõla's clients, evenings often mean putting together marketing strategies, working with designers on campaigns, attending meetings to offer advice. The hours aren't predictable, but that's exactly why I love it. Stagnation isn't an option here.

So Why Flow3?

After years wearing glasses, I wanted the freedom to move without thinking about them—to ski, skate, swim, perform without worrying about my vision correction. I researched the options and kept coming back to Flow3.

What convinced me was simple: the entire clinical team at KSA Silmakeskus chose Flow3 for their own eyes. That's not marketing. That's trust. When the people performing the procedure use it themselves, you believe them.

Flow3 is flapless—no blade, no flap created during surgery—which means faster recovery and less risk to the cornea, especially important if you're active. The procedure took about ten minutes per eye. Recovery is roughly one week, not months.

Life Two Months Later

Clear vision is strange when you've worn glasses for decades. I notice things I'd stopped seeing—details at distance, the way light moves. Swimming feels genuinely different. Skiing is easier. I'm not adjusting frames or worrying about fogging.

The recovery was straightforward. Some mild discomfort for a few days, then gradually everything cleared. Dr. Ants Haavel and the team were thorough and honest about what to expect. They've performed over 55,000 procedures—that kind of volume and consistency matters.

Would I do it again? Without hesitation. Vision correction isn't frivolous when you live an active life. It's practical freedom.

Looking Ahead

Culture doesn't slow down in Tallinn, and neither do I. This summer, if you're looking for concerts and festivals worth attending, Jazzkaar's calendar is packed. Check what's happening—there's something for every taste.

As for me, I'm spending less time adjusting glasses and more time doing what matters: making things, supporting artists, and enjoying the clarity to actually see it all.
