Eyes are extremely important organs for ensuring a full quality of life, which is why it is natural to take the planning of a laser eye procedure seriously. Many of our patients ask when the best time is to get rid of glasses and achieve a good result.

When Has Vision Stabilised?

This question actually contains the answer on several levels. Medically, the best time to correct vision is when vision has stabilised — meaning that no additional minus (short-sightedness) has developed over the past year and vision has not deteriorated.

"If the procedure is performed on eyes that have not yet reached stability, it may happen that a small minus returns some time after the laser procedure," says KSA Silmakeskus ophthalmologist Dr. Ants Haavel.

Positive People Recover Faster

The next answer to the question posed in the title is the person's mental readiness. The person must feel that they are mentally prepared, positively minded, and optimistic about the healing process. No KSA Silmakeskus doctor or optometrist recommends coming in for the procedure under duress, against one's will, or with a negative attitude.

"Over ten years of practice, we have seen that patients' attitude and speed of recovery are directly linked. Positive patients recover faster and their vision outcomes are significantly better than those of negative patients," says Dr. Haavel. This means there is no single right time to get rid of glasses and contact lenses, as everything depends on the individual's own feelings and mental readiness.

We Perform the Flow Procedure Year-Round

In the past, there was a belief that surgical procedures should be avoided in months that did not contain the letter 'r'. It was claimed that broken bones healed more slowly during those months, and people were advised to take particular care not to create open wounds during that time.

The "dry period" lasting from May to August no longer applies today, as technology and capabilities have advanced to the point where the season has no effect whatsoever on the quality, outcome, or recovery process of laser eye procedures. "We perform the touch-free Flow procedure year-round, and summer is sometimes the busiest time of the year. In terms of months, there is no such thing as the best time, because every month and every day is equally good," says Dr. Haavel.

Rest Period After Getting Rid of Glasses

The 100% incision-free Flow laser procedure requires the use of special eye drops before and after the procedure to achieve the best result. "We recommend planning to get rid of glasses using this method at a time when you are not pregnant or breastfeeding," advises the ophthalmologist.

After the procedure, it is essential to rest for seven days. During this time, it is not advisable to work, strain your eyes, or use a computer. For this reason, we recommend scheduling the procedure at a time when work is quieter and you can enjoy the first week of your glasses-free life. The less strain you have during this period, the faster the recovery and the better the vision outcome. So once again, the best time for laser eye surgery depends on each individual person and their work and personal life.
