Plus Lenses (Farsightedness). If you are farsighted, your lenses magnify the world. They bring everything closer—making your hands look larger and faces seem nearer. They create pincushion distortion, where straight lines bow inward toward the center, like a squishy cushion being pinched.

These optical aberrations and peripheral "prism effects" shift the perceived location of objects in your side vision. Without your brain's intervention, you would constantly see a warped, swimming world.

Phase 2: The Neurological Clash (When Predictions Fail)

Phase 3: Perceptual Recalibration (Rewriting "Normal")

How do these dizzying symptoms go away after a week? The brain actively rewrites its spatial rules.

Through neuroplasticity, your brain:

  • Retrains the VOR: It adjusts the speed of your eye movements (changing the VOR gain) to eliminate retinal slip, stabilizing your visual world when your head moves.
  • Straightens the Warped World: It gradually "bends" curved door frames back to being straight in your perception and recalculates the true distance of objects.
  • Filters out Aberrations: Much like moving next to a railway track and eventually sleeping right through the sound of the trains, your brain simply filters peripheral lens distortions out of your conscious awareness.
