Travel Before and After Flow3 Laser Eye Surgery

Travel Before and After Flow3 Laser Eye Surgery

There's nothing quite like traveling without worry—genuinely enjoying the freedom you've earned. But if you're myopic, blurry vision and the constant juggling of glasses and contact lenses can turn a dream trip into a logistical headache.

So what's travel really like before and after Flow3 laser eye surgery? And what should you know if you're planning to explore the world after the procedure?

We asked Andres Harjaku, one of our beloved patients, to share his travel stories and Flow3 experience. Andres is a world traveler and lifelong learner who, at 29, has covered remarkable ground. He's currently pursuing a second degree in international business management at a Belgian university, while spending his exchange semester in exotic Mexico—and seizing every opportunity to discover new countries and explore wild landscapes.

What draws you to travel?

I'm genuinely captivated by the different corners of the world and their incredible diversity. I especially love hiking through mountainous regions with dramatic landscapes, discovering the local flora and fauna. I believe life is meant to be experienced and marveled at—and that's exactly what I do. At this point, I've set foot on every continent except Antarctica, and I can honestly say the hunger to explore only grows stronger.

Your most memorable trip?

Australia stands out. For a while, I genuinely felt like I was on another planet. I spent a year on the west coast and took the longest road trip of my life through national parks, eventually reaching the northern coast. The landscape and wildlife there are completely unlike anything I'd encountered anywhere else. One moment you're watching kangaroos hopping fearlessly across the land, the next you're taking selfies with quokkas—these impossibly friendly creatures—and soon after you're knee-deep in water with a stingray gently brushing your legs, curious and eager to interact.

Every single day revealed something I'd never seen before. Every 100 kilometers brought an entirely new ecosystem. It was an absolutely incredible experience, and I recommend it warmly to anyone.

What did you have to manage before travel, when you were still myopic?

I've never enjoyed wearing glasses, and contact lenses simply didn't work for me. So when traveling, glasses were always in my bag. In sunny destinations, I'd wear sunglasses instead—non-prescription ones. Sometimes I'd even end up wearing two pairs stacked on top of each other, though that wasn't often because it felt ridiculous.

The real challenge wasn't just the inconvenience. It was the nagging sense that I was missing something. A moment would catch my eye on a mountain trail or across a landscape, and I'd reach for my glasses to really see it clearly. It was constant, low-level friction—nothing catastrophic, but always there.

Prills also fog up in humid climates and get damaged easily. And if you're trekking or doing water sports, you're either taking them off and squinting, or stressing about losing them. Contact lenses in dusty or sandy environments? Even worse. I was always managing my vision rather than simply using it.

What changed after Flow3?

The procedure itself was straightforward—no flap, no cut, just surface laser technology. Recovery was about a week, and I was back to normal life quickly. But the real change came after those first few days.

I could see clearly. Instantly. Without reaching for anything. Without thinking about it.

For travel specifically, it's transformed everything. I don't pack glasses. I don't worry about them fogging up or breaking. I don't have to choose between seeing clearly and participating fully in an activity. When I'm hiking, swimming, or simply sitting by a view, my vision is there—clear and automatic.

Recently, I was in Mexico, and I climbed to a viewpoint at dawn. The landscape unfolded in complete clarity without a single reach for glasses. That's the difference Flow3 made. It's not just about vision correction—it's about freedom. The freedom to travel without a visual asterisk attached to every experience.

Practical tips for traveling after Flow3

If you're considering the procedure before a trip, here's what I'd suggest:

Timing matters. Recovery is roughly one week, so plan your trip accordingly. You'll be fine to travel, but avoid heavy physical exertion or water sports in the first week.

Sunglasses are still essential. Post-procedure eyes can be light-sensitive. Pack good quality sunglasses—now purely for comfort and protection, not correction.

Stay hydrated. Dry cabin air affects your eyes more when they're healing. Drink water consistently on flights.

Skip contact lenses. If you're used to them, resist the temptation. Your eyes are adjusting; let them settle completely before experimenting.

Trust the process. The Flow3 procedure is non-invasive and proven across 55,000+ procedures. The clinical team at KSA chose it for their own eyes—that tells you something.

The bottom line? Clear vision changes travel from something you manage to something you simply enjoy. And that's worth far more than any pair of glasses.
