How Flow3 Freed a Winemaker From Glasses

"The sauna story remains my most embarrassing moment — from back when I wore glasses," Jorma Kütt laughs.
Last October, Jorma Kütt — winemaker at the small family business Ulge Talu — walked into KSA Silmakeskus needing new glasses. He left without them. The irony wasn't lost on him: it took the prospect of buying another pair to finally investigate laser eye surgery. While taste and imagination matter most in winemaking, his joy at seeing clearly again has proven boundless. His humour and genuine passion for his craft made an immediate impression on our team. We wanted to share his story with you.
Tell us about yourself — what do you do?
I'm Jorma, and I earn my living doing something rather exotic by Estonian standards: I make wine from local ingredients. In my spare time, I love exploring hiking trails across Estonia with my dog. That wanderlust often takes me beyond our borders, and I'm a regular at the gym and swimming pool.
How did the winery idea come about, and what draws you to the work?
Our small family business has been growing plants for decades. We'd long tossed around ideas about how to best develop our raw materials. The winery concept didn't happen overnight — it was the result of roughly ten years of experimenting. It became serious when I grew tired of full-time employment. From that moment on, everything unfolded naturally and quickly.
What captivates me most is twofold: the freedom to plan my own time independently, and the opportunity to let my imagination run wild — creating endless new flavour combinations. You can follow Ulge's progress on social media: Facebook, Instagram, or by visiting us in person.
What was life like wearing glasses?
I wouldn't say my glasses stopped me from doing things in life. But at -2 prescription, they were irritating enough that my first task every morning was fishing them off the nightstand.
When did your short-sightedness cause the most friction?
Over the years, the worst was always winter. Step inside from the cold and my lenses would fog up instantly. Rain was equally annoying — constant cleaning, endless frustration. I half-joked that I needed a full-time staff member just to look after my glasses.
Any embarrassing or uncomfortable moments with blurred vision?
The sauna incident tops my list of awkward moments. There's nothing quite like turning up to a public sauna without your sight — let's just say I learned some valuable lessons about dignity and spatial awareness that day. Small country, small pools: I'm sure a few people remember "the blind winemaker."
What made you decide on laser eye surgery?
It was simply the accumulation of minor annoyances. One day I thought: why am I tolerating this? I looked into my options and came across KSA Silmakeskus. The fact that Dr. Ants Haavel and his entire clinical team have undergone Flow3 themselves spoke volumes. If the surgeons trust it enough for their own eyes, that's powerful endorsement.
Why did you choose Flow3 specifically?
Flow3 is flapless — no surgical flap, just surface laser treatment. That matters when you're active outdoors like I am. The recovery is faster than traditional LASIK, usually about a week. There's less risk of complications during sport or hiking. For someone who spends time in nature and uses their eyes constantly, it felt like the right choice.
How was the procedure itself?
Professional and calm. Dr. Haavel and the team made me feel completely secure. The procedure itself is quick — you're done before your mind has fully registered what's happening. No pain, just some pressure and bright light. Afterwards, some mild discomfort for a few days, but nothing serious.
What's changed since?
Everything. I wake up and simply... see. No searching for glasses. No fogged lenses in winter. The world is sharper, clearer. Hiking feels different when you can actually spot the trail ahead. Even tasting wine has subtly improved — sometimes clarity changes perception.
The best part? I'll never again show up to a sauna blind.
Would you recommend Flow3 to others?
Absolutely. If you're tired of glasses or contact lenses, and you're active or just want simplicity back in your life, it's worth investigating. The clinic has performed over 55,000 procedures. That's not luck — that's expertise and trust earned over years.
If you're curious about your options — whether Flow3 or ICB lens replacement — book a consultation. It took me five minutes to decide it was worth it. Two decades of glasses seemed suddenly unnecessary.
