7 Funny Moments With Short-Sightedness – KSA Patient Stories

Anyone who's worn glasses or contact lenses knows the feeling: moments so awkward—or so ridiculous—you can't help but laugh about them years later. We asked KSA patients to share their most embarrassing and funny memories from life with short-sightedness. Here's what they told us.

Artjom Savitski, Musician

"This happened at least once a month. I'd see someone waving or signalling across the street, so I'd wave back enthusiastically. Then as they got closer, I'd realise I'd been waving at a complete stranger. I'd just flash an awkward smile and carry on with my blurry-eyed existence."

Liisa Ennuste, Nike Brand & Communications Manager, Dubai

"It's not really funny, but I remember when I first got contact lenses, I was absolutely terrified of taking them out. One morning I panicked so badly—my eyes were bloodshot, and I was up at 7 a.m.—because I was too nervous to even sleep with them in. I had no idea what I was doing."

Juhani Särglep, Video Artist & World Traveller

"I hated putting contact lenses in first thing in the morning when my eyes were still groggy. One early morning in the Maldives, we had this deal with a hotel manager: if we made a great video, they'd send us to five other resorts across the islands. We were planning to film dolphins that morning. I didn't put my lenses in—everything was a bit hazy, but not terrible. We found a massive pod of 40 to 50 dolphins and I jumped straight in the water with my camera, trying to film in the middle of them.

Suddenly, I felt something bump my legs. I spun around and saw a dark shape at the water's edge. The next second—whack—a canoe paddle hit my head. Two confused Chinese tourists in a small boat.

I tried to stay calm and swam back to the bigger boat. I grabbed the drone because that dolphin moment was incredible. I took off and started filming. Everything was a bit blurry, I couldn't really see the drone, but I had the screen so I was flying by that. When I was furthest out, the drone started beeping—battery dying. I rushed back to the boat, but crashed straight into the side and the drone went down. My head was throbbing and now my drone was at the bottom of the ocean. I got back to shore and told the hotel manager everything had gone wrong, we couldn't continue filming, and we'd have to fly back to Estonia.

But they weren't upset at all. They said they'd actually help us—apparently someone on another island had a drone we could use. We made it to the next island and a young guy showed up with the newest model..."

These stories don't have to be yours. If you're tired of the daily hassle—fumbling with lenses in the morning, awkward moments of mistaken identity, or just the cost and inconvenience—there's a better way.
